" Introduction:
Construction of new animal re-homing centre for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in Brands Hatch, Kent.
Details:
Following the demolition of existing kennel buildings, the project involved the construction of two new buildings – one single storey and one two storey.
Additional works included the refurbishment of existing premises to form a new dog assessment room, new offices, staff room, kitchen, bathroom and two self contained apartments.
Secured following a two-stage semi-negotiated tender process, as part of the 43 week programme several old kennel buildings were demolished at the start of the project and a temporary access road formed across an adjoining sloping field.
Features:
Extensive external works were required due to the sloping site, involving the construction of retaining walls, car parking and a new access road.
The new buildings at Brands Hatch are clean, peaceful and tranquil, designed to provide a calmer environment for those dogs and cats struggling to cope with the busier environment in London.
Utilising steel frame construction with a mixture of brickwork, boarding and render to the elevations, they provide large kennels, with heated floors and sound absorption technology
The sense of calm continues in the state-of-the-art cattery with heated shelves for the cats and large external runs.
The on-site veterinary clinic, visitor reception and shop are light and airy, and behind the scenes the kitchens, laundry and bathing areas for the dogs are all designed to make the whole place run efficiently. "
